The House of Representatives formalized an agreement on Tuesday by signing a Memorandum of Understanding with the Office of the United Nations Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination Against Women Nigeria Member (OCEDAWNM) to bolster legislative interventions concerning women’s issues.
Just slightly more than a week ago, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, PhD, sanctioned the Parliamentary Development Programme for the 10th Assembly, which is supported by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). This initiative focuses on enhancing the capacities of members and staff of the House of Representatives.
The MoU with OCEDAWNM highlights the House’s dedication to advancing objectives of inclusivity and affirmative action for effective governance, as delineated in the People’s House Legislative Agenda. This collaboration further reaffirms our commitment to revitalizing public trust.
“This afternoon, we convene once again to establish another operational agreement with the United Nations committee on the Elimination of Discrimination Against Women to champion the vision of our Legislative Agenda on inclusivity and affirmative action for effective governance.
“There is no more potent way to emphasize the House’s resolve to rebuild public trust through practical citizen engagement and capacity enhancement,” the Speaker articulated.
Speaker Abbas Tajudeen has been instrumental in facilitating these partnerships by endorsing their respective Memorandums of Understanding. His backing of these initiatives underscores the House’s proactive stance in combating gender discrimination and advocating for equality.
These endeavors are in harmony with our legislative responsibility to fulfill international and regional commitments while addressing local agencies and circumstances.
