The House of Representatives’ leadership, under the guidance of Speaker Abbas Tajudeen, Ph.D, engaged in a visit to the Dangote Refinery and Petrochemicals Company in Lagos on Saturday.
The visit, extended by the Dangote Group, was initially intended to coincide with the Senate’s leadership on June 3, 2024. However, due to the National Assembly leadership’s commitment to addressing the labor strike at the time, the visit was postponed.
Subsequently, the Senate leadership conducted their visit independently, while the House leadership rescheduled for July 20.
The House leadership arrived in Lagos on Friday in preparation for the visit.
During the tour of the facility led by Alhaji Aliko Dangote, the President of the Dangote Group, Speaker Abbas emphasized the importance of gaining a profound understanding of the operations of the Dangote Refinery.
The purpose of the visit was to equip the House Leadership and the pertinent oil and gas committees with an intricate comprehension of the Dangote Refinery’s undertakings.
This endeavor is in alignment with the legislative agenda, which focuses on supporting the President’s Renewed Hope agenda, centered on economic transformation, growth, and development.
The Speaker acknowledged the challenges faced by the private sector in Nigeria, including regulatory obstacles, infrastructure deficiencies, and financial access. The House of Representatives is dedicated to tackling these issues and enhancing the business environment in the country.
Furthermore, the Speaker stressed the importance of establishing open communication channels between Dangote Group and the National Assembly. Constructive dialogue is crucial for swiftly addressing operational challenges and fostering an environment conducive to economic growth.
The Speaker commended the Dangote refinery for its significant contributions to the Nigerian economy, emphasizing the positive impact of strategic investments on job creation, import reduction, and technological advancement.
