The House of Representatives has dismissed as baseless recent claims by Rep. Ibrahim Usman Auyo, who alleged in a viral video that lawmakers are paid to sponsor Motions, Bills, and Petitions.
In a statement signed by the House Spokesman, Rep. Akin Rotimi Jr., the leadership warned that such unsubstantiated allegations risk eroding public confidence in the National Assembly. He stressed that accountability must be pursued with facts, not conjecture.
“Rep. Auyo will be invited to substantiate his claims before the House. If he fails to do so, the matter will be referred to the Committee on Ethics and Privileges,” the statement read.
The House highlighted its midterm record, noting that since inauguration, the 10th Assembly has introduced 2,263 Bills, passed 237, and moved over 1,100 Motions, driving interventions across education, health, security, infrastructure, and economic development.

It reiterated that all legislative business is governed by constitutional provisions, House Standing Orders, and parliamentary ethics—processes incompatible with bribery insinuations.
While acknowledging citizens’ demand for accountability, the House urged members to address grievances through proper parliamentary channels. It pledged to remain focused on transparency, responsiveness, and the dignity of Parliament.
