The Executive Governor of Adamawa State, Rt. Hon. Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, has vowed to ensure the completion of an impressive stadium in the capital city of Yola before March 2025.
Governor Fintiri made this commitment in Yola during a meeting with a delegation from the Nigeria Football Federation led by its President, Ibrahim Musa Gusau, at the Government House.
“I express my gratitude for this significant courtesy visit. My administration has always been dedicated to constructing a suitable stadium for the benefit of the youth in our State and the nation as a whole. Your visit will undoubtedly accelerate the progress of this project.
“Constructing the stadium is our way of combating poverty, youth unrest, and juvenile delinquency. We understand that empowering the youth and providing positive outlets for their energy significantly reduces societal vices. We invite you to inspect the site and offer suggestions on any areas we may have overlooked or not adequately addressed so that we can incorporate those recommendations into the project.”
Gusau, in his earlier remarks, commended Governor Fintiri and his administration for the significant advancements in various sectors in the State.
He particularly expressed enthusiasm for the Governor’s determination to finalize the project within a short period.
“Currently, we are facing challenges in our football infrastructure. As of now, we can only host our top matches at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo. Your commitment to completing the stadium here expeditiously will benefit Nigerian football and stand as a remarkable legacy of your tenure.
“Football is a passion; it is life. It serves as a unifying factor for people from diverse backgrounds and bridges physical and mental divides. Adequate sporting infrastructure engages youth meaningfully and productively, and the NFF is prepared to offer guidance on the configuration of the project as it progresses.”
Gusau also suggested that Governor Fintiri sponsor an U17 Football Championship in the State, organized by the Adamawa State Football Association, to discover talents that can be nurtured from grassroots to stardom.
It was revealed that the Adamawa New Stadium Complex had been neglected by the three previous administrations in the State.
