Global Tensions Soar: Reports Claim Iran’s Supreme Leader Killed in US-Israel Strikes
Reports that Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, has been killed in coordinated military strikes allegedly carried out by the United States and Israel have sent shockwaves across the Middle East, raising fears of a wider regional conflict.
Israeli media outlets, citing a senior Israeli official quoted by Reuters, claimed Khamenei died following a wave of targeted attacks on senior Iranian military and political figures. However, as of press time, there has been no formal confirmation from Tehran, leaving uncertainty over the fate of Iran’s most powerful leader.
The reported operation allegedly focused on strategic installations linked to Iran’s defence and nuclear infrastructure. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said several high-ranking officials were “eliminated” during the strikes, including commanders within Iran’s Revolutionary Guard.
According to the report U.S. President Donald Trump described the action as a decisive response to what he termed imminent security threats, pledging sustained pressure on Iran’s military capabilities.
Iran reportedly retaliated with attacks targeting Israeli positions and U.S. military assets in parts of the Middle East. Explosions were reported in multiple locations, intensifying concerns about a broader confrontation that could further destabilise an already volatile region.
International observers have urged restraint, warning that prolonged hostilities could disrupt global security and energy markets, with potential economic repercussions worldwide.

Amid the escalating tensions, Nigeria’s Federal Government issued a travel advisory to its citizens residing in Iran and neighbouring Gulf countries. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs urged Nigerians to exercise heightened caution, avoid military and government installations, limit non-essential movement, and comply strictly with directives from local authorities.
Nigerian diplomatic missions in Tehran and across Gulf states have been placed on high alert to provide assistance to citizens, while Abuja called on all parties involved to prioritise dialogue and diplomacy to prevent further escalation.
