ABUJA – Former Inspector-General of Police (IGP) and ex-Chairman of the Police Service Commission (PSC), Solomon Arase, has died.
Arase was reported to have passed away at Cedarcrest Hospital in Abuja, where he was receiving treatment for an undisclosed ailment.
A seasoned intelligence officer, Arase served as Nigeria’s 18th Inspector-General of Police, assuming office in April 2015 during the administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan. He retired from active service in 2016.
In January 2023, former President Muhammadu Buhari appointed him Chairman of the Police Service Commission, a position he held until his controversial removal by President Bola Tinubu in June 2024.

Renowned for his exceptional intelligence-gathering expertise, Arase once headed the Criminal Intelligence and Investigation Bureau of the Nigeria Police Force and served as commissioner in multiple commands across the country.
A native of Edo State, South-South Nigeria, Arase’s career was marked by professionalism and dedication to law enforcement.
