Former House of Representatives Member Kidnapped, Police Escort Killed

Dr. Joseph Haruna Kigbu, a former member of the House of Representatives, was abducted yesterday evening while traveling to Jos.

The attack occurred around 6:00 PM on the road between Nunku in Akwanga Local Government Area of Nasarawa State and Gwantu in Sanga Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

Eyewitnesses reported that armed bandits ambushed the vehicle, opening fire and killing the police officer assigned to escort Dr. Kigbu. The officer reportedly displayed immense bravery, attempting to fend off the attackers before succumbing to their overwhelming gunfire.

Residents in the area have expressed concern over the rising wave of criminal activity, noting that such incidents have become increasingly frequent. Efforts to reach the Nasarawa State Police Command for confirmation were unsuccessful, as calls to their office went unanswered.

The incident underscores the urgent need for comprehensive measures to address the growing insecurity plaguing parts of the country.
