The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has raised alarm over the malicious creation of fake social media accounts impersonating its Permanent Secretary, Ambassador Dunoma Umar Ahmed, PhD.
In a statement signed by the Ministry’s Spokesperson, Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa, on Friday, August 22, 2025, the Ministry disclosed that the fraudulent accounts, especially on Facebook, X (formerly Twitter), and Instagram, were being used to solicit financial favours, seek personal gains, and issue false promises of contract awards.
The Ministry clarified that Ambassador Ahmed does not operate any personal social media accounts for official or professional purposes. It stressed that all legitimate communications from his office are disseminated exclusively through the Ministry’s verified website (www.foreignaffairs.gov.ng) and official social media platforms.
“For the avoidance of doubt, the Permanent Secretary will never promise or make offers of contract awards or solicit funds and personal favours through social media or any unverified channel,” the statement read.

The Ministry urged the public and the diplomatic community to disregard such fraudulent communications and promptly report the fake accounts to relevant social media platforms for takedown, as well as to the Nigerian Police Force’s Cybercrime Unit.
It further assured that the Ministry is collaborating with security and regulatory agencies to track down the perpetrators and bring them to justice, reaffirming the Federal Government’s commitment to transparency and integrity.
