In a bold move to expand access to quality healthcare in Nigeria’s underserved and rural communities, the Federal Government, through the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, has inaugurated the Renewed Hope Health Connect (RHHC) Management Committee.
The inauguration, announced in a press statement signed by Alaba Balogun, Deputy Director of Information and Public Relations, took place on Tuesday.
The RHHC is a targeted medical outreach programme designed to provide essential healthcare services across 55 senatorial districts, focusing on Nigeria’s most vulnerable populations.
While inaugurating the committee, Honourable Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, Dr. Iziaq Adekunle Salako, emphasized the urgency of the initiative.
“Access to quality healthcare remains a significant challenge in many parts of our country, especially in rural and underserved communities,” he said. “These areas often lack sufficient healthcare infrastructure, personnel, and essential medical supplies, leading to poor health outcomes, high maternal and child mortality rates, and the spread of preventable diseases.”
Dr. Salako highlighted that the RHHC programme has been captured in the 2025 federal budget as a demonstration of the government’s commitment to improving healthcare delivery nationwide.
He affirmed that medical outreaches have proven effective in delivering health services directly to the people who need them most, particularly in hard-to-reach areas.
Committee Composition
The RHHC Management Committee will be chaired by Dr. Salako himself and includes:
Directors of key departments within the Ministry
A representative from the Office of the Coordinating Minister of Health
A representative of the Permanent Secretary
The Coordinator of the National Eye Health Programme
The Senior Technical Assistant and Technical Assistant to the Minister
Dr. Charles Nzelu, Director of the Special Duties Department, who will serve as Secretary.
Terms of Reference
The committee is tasked with the following responsibilities:
Collaborating with consultants and firms to coordinate the implementation of medical outreach programmes across 55 targeted senatorial districts.
Ensuring equitable distribution of healthcare services and medical supplies.
Monitoring and evaluating the impact of outreach activities.
Fostering partnerships with relevant stakeholders, including health agencies, NGOs, and community leaders.

Developing a detailed implementation plan, identifying healthcare priorities per district, and allocating resources accordingly.
