The Federal Government of Nigeria, through the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Power, will convene a two-day National Stakeholders’ Dialogue on Power in the Health Sector on Tuesday 9 and Wednesday 10 September 2025 at the State House Banquet Hall, Presidential Villa, Abuja.
In a press release signed by Alaba Balogun, Deputy Director/Head, Press and Public Relations, on Tuesday, the Ministry announced that the high-level dialogue will bring together senior government officials, energy experts, healthcare leaders, private sector stakeholders, and development partners to develop actionable strategies for ensuring reliable, climate-smart electricity solutions across Nigeria’s health facilities.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, will attend as Special Guest of Honour and will preside over the signing of a historic Power and Health Compact, reaffirming the administration’s commitment to strengthening health infrastructure through sustainable energy, in alignment with the Renewed Hope Agenda and the health sector’s 4-Point Agenda.
Key objectives of the dialogue include:
Reviewing Nigeria’s energy policy landscape and its impact on healthcare delivery.
Showcasing innovative energy solutions, including renewable technologies and backup systems.
Strengthening public-private partnerships for sustainable infrastructure development.
Unlocking innovative financing models to ensure affordable and reliable electricity for health facilities.
Establishing a collaborative implementation and accountability framework for energy interventions across all levels of care.
The event will also feature a Technology and Innovation Exhibition, inviting private companies, startups, and innovators to present energy solutions that enhance power reliability in hospitals and clinics nationwide.
Speaking ahead of the dialogue, the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof. Muhammad Ali Pate, underscored the importance of energy in saving lives:
“Power is health. Without reliable electricity, vaccines spoil, surgeries stall, and lives are lost. This Dialogue is about securing Nigeria’s health facilities with sustainable energy — to save lives today and safeguard our future.”
The Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, Dr. Iziaq Adekunle Salako, emphasised that the dialogue will focus on delivery-driven solutions:
“A hospital without power is a hospital without hope. This is not just about policy; it is about implementing solutions that will directly benefit patients and frontline health workers.”
The Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, noted that this initiative represents a milestone in transforming Nigeria’s healthcare sector:
“This collaboration is a landmark step towards a future where Nigeria’s health sector is energised through sustainable, climate-smart systems. It sends a strong signal to investors that the sector is open, viable, and ready for transformation.”
