The Federal Ministry of Water Resources and Sanitation has announced a partnership with the National Sugar Development Council (NSDC) aimed at boosting sugar production in Nigeria.
Engr. Professor Joseph Terlumun Utsev, Minister of Water Resources and Sanitation, made this assertioned in Abuja during a courtesy visit by NSDC’s Executive Secretary, Mr. Kamar Bakrin, and members of the council to his office.
Professor Utsev highlighted that the collaboration will focus on providing sustainable water solutions to sugarcane farms and factories to ensure continuous production.
He noted that plans are underway to desilt major rivers, dams, and reservoirs to enable uninterrupted water supply, mitigate recurring flooding, and enhance the blue economy.
The minister expressed confidence that the development of the sugar sector would create jobs for the country’s youth and strengthen the national economy.
He acknowledged the significant contributions of the NSDC in fostering economic growth and attracting investments.
Professor Utsev thanked the council for supporting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, which is committed to making Nigeria more prosperous, and assured them of a strong partnership to achieve their goals.
Earlier, NSDC Executive Secretary Mr. Bakrin stated that the visit aimed to seek collaboration with the ministry to ensure a sustainable water supply for existing sugarcane farms and factories. This, he explained, would help increase sugar production and bridge the current gap in the industry.
