The Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, through the National AIDS and STDs Control Programme (NASCP), has cautioned the public against a misleading video circulating on TikTok. The video falsely claims that an increase in the price of antiretroviral therapy (ART) drugs will lead to a widespread HIV outbreak.
NASCP categorically refutes this claim, emphasizing that it is entirely false. ART drugs remain free for HIV patients and are taken daily as prescribed by health professionals. These medications are readily available at designated health facilities across the country.
In a press statement issued over the weekend, Dr. Adebobola Bashorun, Director and National Coordinator of NASCP, reassured the public:
“The government, along with various partners, has implemented measures to ensure uninterrupted access to ART drugs for those who need them.”
He further emphasized that HIV transmission can be prevented through proper precautions and that effective treatment is available for those living with the virus.
