The Federal Government has officially lifted the ban on mineral exploration in Zamfara State as part of its efforts to maximize the nation’s natural resources.
This decision, made in consultation with relevant agencies and national security advisors, was announced by the Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Dr. Henry Dele Alake, during a ministerial briefing in Abuja on Friday.
Dr. Alake explained that the move will facilitate the licensing of legitimate operators for mineral exploration in Zamfara State. “This will surely lighten the hearts of the people of Zamfara”.
Emphasizing the collaboration with local stakeholders, including the Zamfara State Governor, who has been actively involved in the discussions. “The approval has been given and formalized, allowing interested and legitimate operators to commence exploration,” the minister noted.
Addressing Negative Narratives and Misinformation
Dr. Alake also cautioned journalists against disseminating misleading or negative reports about the nation, particularly in relation to international agreements and their interpretations.
He highlighted the recent controversy surrounding the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed in Paris, which some misconstrued as a military pact with France.
“Some narratives displayed extreme ignorance or were deliberate attempts to mislead the public.
There is nothing in that MoU suggesting any form of military agreement or pact. Nigeria is an independent nation, and this administration would never entertain anything that undermines our sovereignty,” Dr. Alake remarked.
He further clarified that the MoU is focused on fostering trade and capacity building in the solid minerals sector, with assistance from France and Germany. “It is a political game by some individuals who seek to misinterpret simple language to score points,” he added.
Achievements and Future Plans
Highlighting milestones achieved by the Ministry of Solid Minerals Development, Dr. Alake noted several international engagements, roadshows, and conferences that have successfully attracted investor interest to the sector.

The minister urged journalists to support the administration’s efforts by reporting responsibly and accurately.
He emphasized the importance of building a positive global image for Nigeria to encourage foreign investment, particularly in critical sectors such as solid minerals.
