The Federal Government, through the Ministry of Environment, has commenced the implementation of a Bamboo Development Factory in Kogi State as part of efforts to promote the bamboo and rattan economy in Nigeria.
This initiative aligns with the diversification agenda of the Renewed Hope Administration.
According to the Minister of Environment, Balarabe Abbas Lawal, feasibility studies are ongoing for the establishment of seven additional bamboo factories across Ogun, Cross River, Kaduna, Edo, Benue, Ekiti, and Taraba States.
The announcement was made during a ministerial press briefing in Abuja, where the Minister also highlighted key achievements of the Ministry and its agencies.
One of such agencies, the National Agency for the Great Green Wall (NAGGW), continues to implement afforestation, reforestation, and sustainable land management projects across 11 northern frontline states battling desert encroachment from the Sahara. The community-driven initiatives aim to improve land rehabilitation, conserve natural resources, alleviate poverty, enhance food security, generate employment, and strengthen the resilience of communities against climate change.
Major achievements of NAGGW include:
Raising 3.85 million Neem seedlings for medicinal plant nurseries across the 11 frontline states.
Establishing a 175km shelterbelt in Borno, Kebbi, Zamfara, Kano, Sokoto, Katsina, and Jigawa States.
Conducting vocational training and empowerment programs for women and youth.
Raising five million Phoenix dactylifera (Date Palm) seedlings for the 2025 planting season to support income-generating value chains.

Distributing 6,600 improved energy-saving stoves and 130 solar-powered pumps to promote agroforestry and reduce deforestation.
