The Federal Government has issued an urgent travel and safety advisory to Nigerians residing in the Islamic Republic of Iran and neighbouring Gulf countries following escalating military actions involving Israel and the United States.
In a statement signed by Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa, spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Abuja, the government said it was closely monitoring the volatile security situation in the Middle East, particularly reports of military strikes allegedly carried out by Israel and the United States on targets in Iran, and subsequent retaliatory actions by Iran on locations in some Gulf countries.
The Ministry warned that the heightened tensions could lead to further escalations and urged Nigerians in affected areas to exercise extreme caution.
According to the advisory, Nigerians in Iran and neighbouring Gulf states are to maintain constant vigilance and remain conscious of their surroundings at all times, especially by avoiding strategic, military or government installations that could serve as potential flashpoints.
The government also strongly recommended that citizens limit non-essential movement and avoid large gatherings or public demonstrations until the security situation stabilises.
“Nigerians are advised to strictly comply with all security and safety directives issued by local authorities in their host countries. Cooperation with law enforcement agencies is paramount for personal safety,” the statement read.
Citizens were further urged to stay informed through reliable international and local news sources, while remaining cautious of misinformation and relying only on official channels for critical updates.
The Ministry disclosed that the Nigerian Embassy in Tehran and missions in neighbouring Gulf countries, including Qatar, Bahrain, Kuwait, United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia, have been placed on high alert to provide consular assistance and facilitate communication with Nigerians in distress.

The Federal Government reassured the public that the safety and well-being of Nigerian citizens abroad remains its top priority, adding that it will continue to assess developments and issue updates as necessary.
It also called on all parties involved in the conflict to de-escalate tensions and return to dialogue in the interest of global peace and coexistence.
