The Federal Government has engaged in high-level talks with the leadership of all Health Sector Unions and Associations as part of an ongoing reconciliation process aimed at sustaining peace and stability in Nigeria’s healthcare system.
According to a press release signed by Alaba Balogun, Director of Press and Public Relations, over the weekend, the meeting was led by the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Professor Muhammad Ali Pate, who underscored President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s commitment to improving the welfare of health workers, whom he described as “indispensable to the success of the Renewed Hope Agenda for the health sector.”
“President Tinubu appreciates all Nigerian health workers. His administration has made substantial investments in infrastructure, equipment, services, and welfare—and will do even more,” Pate stated, adding that prompt implementation of recently concluded agreements with the unions is vital to maintaining healthcare delivery.
Highlighting the impact of ongoing reforms, the Minister revealed that Nigerian hospitals are now attracting patients from across West Africa, Europe, and America. He praised the dedication of health workers and noted that this was the first meeting of its kind, reflecting a new era of government–union engagement.
To ensure the agreements are fully implemented, the Federal Government has established an Inter-Ministerial Committee chaired by the Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, Dr. Izaq Adekunle Salako. The committee’s members include:

Representatives from the Ministry of Labour and Employment, Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, National Salaries, Income and Wages Commission, Federal Ministry of Finance, Office of the Accountant General of the Federation, and the Budget Office.
Also speaking, the Minister of State for Humanitarian Affairs, Dr. Tanko Yusuf Sununu, commended both the unions and the Health Ministry’s leadership. He urged consistent and uniform implementation of agreements and stressed the need for continuous dialogue to achieve lasting industrial harmony.
