The Senator representing Kogi Central Senatorial District, Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, through the federal government intervention orchestrated the distribution of four trucks of fertilizers to farmers on Saturday.
This initiative aimed to bolster food security and advance agricultural practices within her constituency.
The distribution ceremony took place at her residence in Ihima, Okehi, and was attended by farmers’ unions from the five local government areas of the district, as well as Ebira farmers’ unions from neighboring states. The Ebira People’s Association (EPA) and members from the Hausa, Yoruba, and Igbo communities in Kogi Central also graced the event. The four trucks were laden with 2,400 bags of NPK and Urea fertilizers.
Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan urged farmers to enroll in their local unions to streamline future government interventions.
She stressed the importance of maintaining accurate records of farmers and their requirements to ensure targeted support.
The Senator revealed that the federal government had provided these fertilizers to aid farmers.
She attributed this intervention to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, emphasizing his dedication to supporting the agricultural sector in Kogi Central by supplying the four trailers of fertilizers.
Acknowledging the diverse farming landscape that extends beyond Kogi Central, Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan assured that a portion of the fertilizers would be allocated to Ebira farmers in other states. However, the primary focus remained on supporting local farmers cultivating within the district.
The Senator extended the distribution to include indigenous members of other ethnic communities residing in Kogi Central. This inclusive approach aimed to alleviate the challenges faced by all residents during these trying times.
The distribution of the 2,400 bags of NPK and Urea fertilizers occurred on the same day.
Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan emphasized that this support marked only the beginning of assistance for farmers in Kogi Central, urging them to register with their respective Farmers’ Associations for future collaborations.
Mr. Muhammed Bashir Yusuf, speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, expressed gratitude for the gesture and assured that the fertilizers would be utilized effectively.
Baba Abdulrazaq, the Secretary General of the Ebira People’s Association (EPA), commended Senator Natasha’s exceptional efforts, highlighting the positive impact of her leadership on democracy. He called upon other political representatives to emulate her commitment to the welfare of their constituents.
Baba Abdulrazaq encouraged farmers to maximize the benefits of the fertilizers and emphasized the importance of registering with their local unions.
He also took the opportunity to laud Senator Natasha’s endeavors towards the full operation of Ajaokuta steel, urging the public to disregard any misinformation surrounding the ongoing investigations.
