The Federal Government (FG) has commissioned a fleet of tractors and harvesters in Kano, marking a significant milestone in its drive to enhance food production and transform Nigeria’s agricultural sector.
This initiative underscores the government’s unwavering commitment to advancing agriculture and ensuring national food security.
According to a press statement signed by Mrs. Funmi Imuetinyan, Director of Information and Public Relations, the commissioning event took place on Thursday, December 19, 2024, at the Hadejia Jama’are River Basin Development Authority in Kano.
The ceremony was led by the Honourable Minister of Water Resources and Sanitation, Engr. Prof. Joseph Terlumun Utsev, who was accompanied by Honourable Sada Soli, Chairman of the House Committee on Water Resources; Mr. Richard Pheelangwah, Permanent Secretary; other Ministry Directors; and water experts.
Prof. Utsev praised the Hadejia Jama’are River Basin Development Authority for its proactive efforts in procuring these essential farming tools. He emphasized that this initiative is expected to significantly enhance farming productivity and play a crucial role in Nigeria’s journey toward food sufficiency.
He also commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his steadfast support of the Ministry of Water Resources and Sanitation, particularly through the approval and funding of impactful projects. The Minister called for increased collaboration among stakeholders and encouraged leveraging technological advancements to drive economic growth in the agricultural and water sectors.

Prof. Utsev highlighted the importance of proper maintenance and efficient use of the tractors and harvesters, ensuring their durability and maximizing their benefits for farmers and the agricultural community. This effort, he noted, reflects the Federal Government’s dedication to equipping farmers with the necessary tools for sustainable agricultural development.
The Managing Director of the Hadejia Jama’are River Basin Development Authority, Ma’amun Da’u Aliyu, also addressed the event, identifying the lack of mechanization as a persistent challenge for farmers. He described the commissioning of the tractors and harvesters as a transformative step toward addressing this issue and aligning with President Tinubu’s national development agenda.
Aliyu expressed gratitude to the Federal Government and the National Assembly for their unwavering support in bringing the project to fruition. He assured farmers that similar initiatives would continue to be prioritized to mitigate challenges in food production and further advance agricultural progress nationwide.
