The Federal Government and the Adamawa State Government have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to finalize the handover and conversion of Cottage Hospital Hong and General Hospital Mubi into Federal Medical Centres.
This development was announced in a press statement issued by Alaba Balogun, Deputy Director of Information and Public Relations on Monday.
Speaking at the MoU signing ceremony, the Honourable Coordinating Minister for Health and Social Welfare, Prof. Ali Pate, described the agreement as a deliberate initiative by the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare to enhance and expand healthcare services for all Nigerians.
He noted that the move aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s renewed hope agenda.
Highlighting its benefits, Prof. Pate, represented by Permanent Secretary Daju Kachollom (mni), emphasized the critical importance of the upgrade in strengthening healthcare services nationwide.
He stated: “With this signing, we believe, Your Excellency, that this step forward will not only benefit the people of Mubi and Hong but also the entire North East region and even our neighboring countries.”
The Coordinating Minister further explained that converting the hospitals into federal institutions would enhance healthcare access and quality in line with the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare’s mandate to provide safe and effective healthcare services.
Earlier, the Deputy Governor of Adamawa State, Prof. Kaletapwa Farauta, who chaired the official handover and MoU signing, commended the Federal Government and the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare for their vision in upgrading the state’s health facilities.
She remarked that the agreement represents a strategic step toward improving healthcare services for the people of Adamawa State, aligning with Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri’s priority of strengthening the health sector. Prof. Farauta reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to providing the necessary support for the upgraded institutions to succeed.
State Commissioner for Health and Human Services, Chief Felix Tangwami, also expressed gratitude for the Federal Ministry’s impactful contributions to improving healthcare delivery in Adamawa State.
This partnership marks a significant milestone in advancing healthcare infrastructure in Adamawa State and across the North East region.
