The Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare is deeply dismayed and troubled by the recent abduction of approximately 20 medical students and a house officer by bandits in Benue State.
The ministry reiterated that this regrettable incident serves as a poignant reminder of the adversities faced by healthcare practitioners and students in Nigeria.
This information was disclosed in a press release issued by Ado Bako, the Acting Director of Information and Public Relations, on Saturday.
The Ministry vehemently denounces this act of aggression and advocates for the prompt and unconditional release of the kidnapped students. “Their security and well-being are of utmost importance to us.”
According to the statement “We implore the pertinent security agencies to heighten their endeavors in capturing the perpetrators of this atrocious crime and bringing them to justice.
“We urge those engaged in such malevolent activities to refrain from such unlawful deeds and uphold the sanctity of human life.
“The abduction of medical students represents a setback to the nation’s initiatives in fortifying the healthcare workforce. It is imperative to establish a secure and favorable setting for healthcare professionals to discharge their responsibilities without the specter of violence.”
The Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare stands in solidarity with the families of the abducted students and extends its unwavering support during this challenging period. We will continue to closely monitor the situation and implement appropriate measures to ensure the safety and protection of healthcare practitioners and students nationwide.
