The family of Kenneth Ojobo has accused the Nigeria Police Force of shielding suspects and undermining justice in the investigation into his killing in Delta State, raising concerns over alleged witness intimidation and a possible cover-up.
Speaking on Friday, the family claimed that key witnesses in the case have been threatened and forced into hiding, with some reportedly relocating from Delta State to Abuja for safety. They warned that continued intimidation could derail efforts to uncover the truth behind Ojobo’s death.
The incident occurred in Okirighwere Community, Amukpe, in Sapele area of Delta State, where Ojobo was allegedly killed during a violent attack on August 5, 2025. According to the family, those linked to the killing have continued to issue threats, warning witnesses against speaking out or returning to the community.
The family further alleged that the Force Criminal Department, reportedly headed by Deputy Inspector-General of Police Margaret Ochalla, has concealed critical details relating to the case. They also suggested that politically exposed individuals may be influencing the investigation, though no official confirmation has been made.
One of the suspects named in the case, Joseph Eritobo, described by the family as a political thug, is reportedly still at large despite the gravity of the allegations.
Documents indicate that the police had earlier initiated action on the matter following a petition filed in October 2025 by legal representatives of a survivor, Sunday Okoro. A memo dated November 17, 2025, from the Inspector-General’s office directed the Force Intelligence Department to investigate allegations including terrorism, gun-running, and murder.
The petition alleged that Ojobo was killed during an ആക്രമ on the community, which also left Okoro seriously injured. It further claimed that subsequent attempts were made on Okoro’s life, alongside continued threats to residents.
The lawyers representing Okoro expressed concern that earlier complaints to local police yielded no results, alleging possible compromise due to familiarity between suspects and officers in the area.
The family has now called on the Inspector-General of Police to take over the case directly, ensure the arrest of all suspects, and guarantee protection for witnesses.

They warned that failure to act decisively could erode public trust in the police and further endanger those with crucial information.
Efforts to reach DIG Ochalla for comments were unsuccessful as of press time.
