Troops of the Nigerian Army have arrested a 65-year-old woman, Hauwa Abulazeez, for allegedly supplying cannabis sativa to Boko Haram terrorist elements operating in parts of Borno State.
The arrest followed credible intelligence on January 23, 2026, leading troops to Askira Uba Local Government Area, where the suspect was apprehended. Military authorities said Abulazeez is believed to be a key supplier of the illicit substance to terrorist elements active in Askira Uba, Rumirgo, Gwahi, Wamdiyo, Uvu and Gaya communities.
According to a statement by the Army spokesperson, Uba, preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect allegedly sourced the cannabis from Sarti Baruwa Local Government Area of Taraba State and transported it through established supply routes for distribution across several communities within the North-East theatre.
During the operation, troops recovered 14 compressed blocks of cannabis sativa, with an estimated total weight of about 30 kilogrammes, which the Army described as a significant seizure aimed at sustaining criminal and terrorist activities.
The military said the suspect is currently in custody and undergoing preliminary investigation, while follow-up operations are ongoing to identify and dismantle the wider drug trafficking and distribution network linked to the supply.

The Army noted that the interception highlights the critical importance of cutting off illicit supply chains that fuel terrorism, violence and instability in the region, stressing that such disruptions contribute to improved security and the restoration of lawful authority.
Uba reaffirmed the military’s commitment to confronting all forms of criminality in the North-East, assuring that sustained intelligence-driven operations would continue until lasting peace and stability are achieved across the region.
