The Chairman of the Senate Committee on Defence, Senator Ahmad Lawan, has reiterated the Committee’s commitment to enhancing the capabilities and welfare of Nigeria’s Armed Forces personnel.
Senator Lawan made this statement during an oversight visit to the Defence Space Administration (DSA), the National Defence College (NDC), and the Military Pensions Board (MPB) on Monday. He noted that the visit was part of the Committee’s mandate to monitor and provide oversight for the activities of the Nigerian Armed Forces and their affiliated agencies.
At the DSA, Senator Lawan and the Committee engaged in an interactive session with the agency’s leadership. The Director-General of the DSA, Air Vice-Marshal Lanre Oluwatoyin, briefed the Committee on the agency’s strategic role in bolstering Nigeria’s defense capabilities. The Committee commended the DSA’s leadership for their efforts and pledged continued support to strengthen its operations.
During the visit to the National Defence College, the Commandant, Rear Admiral Olumuyiwa Olotu, provided an overview of the institution’s training programs, curriculum, and facilities. The Committee expressed satisfaction with the College’s contributions to preparing military officers for leadership roles and assured the College of ongoing support.
At the Military Pensions Board, the Chairman, Air Vice Marshal Paul Ichibor Irumheson, presented a detailed report on the Board’s operations, challenges, and proposed solutions. In response, Senator Lawan emphasized the importance of timely pension payments to retired military personnel and their families, highlighting the need to prioritize their welfare.
The former Senate President lauded the professionalism and dedication of the Armed Forces in safeguarding Nigeria’s territorial integrity and sovereignty. He assured the leadership of the agencies visited of the Committee’s unwavering support.
