Ex-Kano Endorse Barau for Governorship, Declare Tinubu’s Second Term Rescue Mission

Former federal lawmakers from Kano State have declared their support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s second-term ambition and endorsed the Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau I. Jibrin, for the 2027 Kano State governorship election, describing their political engagement as a “rescue mission” for the state.

The endorsement was announced during a courtesy visit to Senator Barau in Abuja on Friday by the forum of former federal legislators who served in the second, third and current fourth republics.
Led by Hon. Umar Sadiq, who represented Kumbotso Federal Constituency between 1979 and 1983, the forum said their decision was unanimous, stressing that they would mobilise political support to ensure victory for both President Tinubu and Senator Barau.

According to a statement by the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the Deputy Senate President, Malam Ismail Mudashir, the leaders reaffirmed their confidence in President Tinubu’s leadership and Senator Barau’s capacity to govern Kano State effectively.

“This is the second time we are endorsing Senator Barau for the governorship of our state. He remains our only candidate. Insha Allah, he is the next governor of Kano State. His performance has been outstanding, and we urge him to sustain his good work,” Hon. Sadiq said.

Also speaking, Hon. Idris Isah (Jollof), a former House of Representatives member, described Barau as a blessing to Kano and the All Progressives Congress (APC), noting that the survival and strength of the party in the state are largely attributed to his political influence and developmental contributions.

In the same vein, former lawmaker Hon. Faruk Lawan pledged that the forum would mobilise extensively to ensure the electoral success of both Tinubu and Barau in 2027. The Chief of Staff to the APC National Chairman, Hon. Mustapha Bala Dawaki, also attended the meeting.
Responding, Senator Barau expressed appreciation to the former lawmakers, whom he described as “the backbone of Kano politics.”

He said their endorsement signaled a determined effort to “rescue Kano State from misrule,” alleging that poor leadership had plunged the state into decline.

“This is my constituency as a member of this forum, and I am happy that you have queued behind this movement to rescue Kano. Kano is being run like a private enterprise. We will not sit idly by and watch things deteriorate further,” Barau stated.

“It is not about us; it is about the future of our state. Let us work together to change the situation and ensure resources are used for the benefit of all.”

The endorsement marks a significant political alignment within Kano APC ahead of the 2027 general elections, potentially reshaping the state’s political landscape.
