League of Yoruba Youths Rallies Support for Tinubu’s Economic Reforms, Calls for National Unity
The League of Yoruba Youth for Advocacy and Good Governance has reaffirmed its unwavering support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, applauding his administration’s economic reforms and policies aimed at strengthening governance, promoting transparency, and empowering Nigerian youths.
Speaking at the League’s annual summit in Abuja themed “Evaluation of the Renewed Hope Agenda: A Strategic Way of Converting Challenges to Good,” the President-General of the group, Ambassador Adediwura Adesina, said the event was convened to review the impact of the government’s reforms and evaluate President Tinubu’s performance since assuming office in May 2023.
Adesina commended the President’s bold decision to remove the fuel subsidy on his first day in office, describing it as a painful but necessary sacrifice to rescue the nation’s ailing economy.
“President Tinubu was bold enough to remove the fuel subsidy on his first day in office — a courageous step to secure Nigeria’s economic future. Though it came with hardship, it was a necessary decision to prevent further deterioration,” he said.
He noted that the policy had significantly boosted allocations to states and local governments, urging Nigerians to demand accountability from governors and local authorities.
“From January to June 2025 alone, state and local government allocations have tripled compared to previous years. It’s time citizens ask their governors where the funds are going,” he added.
Adesina further lauded the Supreme Court’s judgment granting local government autonomy, describing it as a “landmark victory” for grassroots development and a major milestone under the Tinubu administration.
Highlighting other key achievements, he cited the establishment of the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) as a transformative policy ensuring access to education for all.
“No student in Nigeria should drop out again because of financial difficulty,” he emphasized.
Reiterating the group’s commitment to unity and peace, Adesina cautioned against ethnic divisions and called on Nigerians to see themselves as one people.
“We don’t believe anyone is Igbo, Hausa, or Yoruba — these are just tribal names. We are all Nigerians. Only unity can move this country forward,” he declared.
The youth leader also urged President Tinubu to remain focused on his economic and governance agenda despite political distractions, assuring him of the League’s continued support.
“Our message to President Tinubu is simple — do not be distracted. Stay the course. You are on the right track,” he said.
Adesina hinted that the group might consider endorsing President Tinubu for re-election in 2027 after reviewing his administration’s performance.
“If the Renewed Hope scorecard exceeds 70 percent, we will officially declare our support,” he concluded.
In his goodwill message, Chief Olayinka Oladiran, a member of the League’s Board of Trustees, urged Nigerian leaders to consolidate the gains of ongoing reforms through inclusive governance.
“The President has laid the foundation for economic recovery. What is needed now is accountability and continuity in public service,” he noted.
Also speaking, Princess Yetunde Akinlabi, a youth development advocate, encouraged young Nigerians to take ownership of the Renewed Hope Agenda by participating actively in national development.
“This government has created opportunities in technology, agriculture, and education. The question is — are we ready to take advantage of them?” she asked.

Traditional rulers from the South West, including Oba Abdulraheem Adetunji, commended the League for promoting peace and unity, urging youths to uphold the Yoruba Omoluabi ethos, a culture of integrity, discipline, and respect.
“When our youths embrace good character and hard work, the future of Nigeria is secure,” the royal father stated.
