The Ministry of Solid Minerals Development witnessed a symbolic change of leadership on Friday as Engr. Faruk Yusuf Yabo officially assumed duty as the new Permanent Secretary, succeeding Dr. Mary Ogbe.
At a brief handover ceremony attended by top management and staff of the Ministry, Dr. Ogbe formally passed the baton to her successor. The event was marked by expressions of appreciation and goodwill from colleagues and staff alike.
In a statement signed by Kania Maliki Andeyaba, Deputy Director and Head of Press and Public Relations, the Ministry confirmed the seamless transition.
Addressing the staff, Engr. Yabo called for cooperation and unity, pledging to build on the solid foundation laid by his predecessor. “I urge you to support me just as you supported my colleague. This sector holds immense potential for Nigeria’s economic transformation, and I count on all of you to make it work,” he said.
In her farewell remarks, Dr. Ogbe expressed gratitude for the support she received during her tenure and urged the staff to extend the same level of commitment to her successor. “Movement across ministries is part of civil service life, and we embrace it with grace,” she said, encouraging the team to continue improving their work for the nation’s benefit.
She also asked for forgiveness from anyone she may have offended, noting it was never personal but in the line of duty.
The ceremony was marked by emotional tributes from departmental heads and colleagues. Director of Human Resources, Mrs. Ijeoma Idika, described Dr. Ogbe as “a mother figure” who supported everyone as long as their intentions aligned with the Ministry’s goals.
Director of General Services, Mrs. Toyin Showemimo, praised the outgoing Permanent Secretary’s dedication and welcomed Engr. Yabo warmly.
The Director-General of the Nigeria Mining Cadastre Office, Engr. Obadiah Simon Nkom, echoed the sentiments of appreciation. “We will continue to pray for you. This redeployment marks the beginning of the best phase of your service,” he said, while assuring the new Permanent Secretary of his full support.
