The Ekiti State University (EKSU) has announced its decision to confer honorary doctorate degrees on the Leader of the Senate, Senator Opeyemi Bamidele, in recognition of his contributions to the development of the institution, Nigeria, and the international community.
In a letter signed by its Registrar, Mr. Ife Oluwole, the university conveyed the decision of its Governing Council and Senate to honour Bamidele alongside Dr. Zach Adedeji, Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), and Dr. Mansur Muhtar, Chairman of the Governing Board of the Bank of Industry. The conferment ceremony will take place during EKSU’s convocation on March 29, 2025.
The letter reads:
“I have the pleasure to inform you that the Governing Council and Senate of Ekiti State University, Ado-Ekiti, have resolved to confer upon you an honorary Doctor of Law (Honoris Causa) at the forthcoming convocation scheduled for March 29, 2025.
“This honor is in recognition of Senator Bamidele’s significant contributions to the development of this university, our dear country, and the global community.
“Other recipients of honorary degrees at the convocation include Dr. Zach Adedeji, Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service, and Dr. Mansur Muhtar, former Minister of Finance under the late President Umaru Yar’Adua and current Chairman of the Governing Board of the Bank of Industry.”
In response, Senator Bamidele, through a statement released by his Directorate of Media and Public Affairs on Sunday, expressed gratitude to the Governing Council and Senate of the institution for the honor.
He described the recognition as both a privilege and a challenge, reinforcing his commitment to public service and the pursuit of the greater good. He pledged to continue advocating for the rule of law, pro-people legislation, and collective peace and prosperity across Nigeria.

This latest recognition adds to Bamidele’s growing list of honorary degrees. On February 11, 2024, the Federal University, Oye-Ekiti awarded him a Doctor of Public Law (Honoris Causa), while on January 23, 2023, Joseph Ayo Babalola University honored him with a Doctor of Public Administration (Honoris Causa). Both institutions cited his dedication to progressive legislation and national peacebuilding.
