Anambra governorship aspirant under the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief Valentine Ozigbo, has emphasized that quality education is the cornerstone of Nigeria’s development.
Speaking at a convocation dinner in Awka, Ozigbo highlighted the transformative power of education, stating, “The key to national development is education; it is the number one factor. Without leveraging the power of knowledge, meaningful progress cannot be achieved.”
The event, themed “The Role of Alumni in National Development,” was held in honor of the doctorate, master’s, and postgraduate diploma graduates of the Class of 2025 from the Business School at Nnamdi Azikiwe University (NAU), Awka.
Ozigbo underscored the crucial role of alumni in supporting educational institutions, drawing comparisons with globally renowned universities such as Harvard, which thrive on alumni contributions. He stressed that the government alone cannot shoulder the responsibility of educational advancement, advocating for increased participation from alumni associations.
He further urged governments at all levels to invest in educational infrastructure, including buildings, perimeter fencing, roads, power supply, water, and medical facilities. According to him, adequate and sustained funding is essential to laying a solid foundation for Nigeria’s education sector.
As the chairman of the occasion, Ozigbo called on NAU alumni to actively contribute to the institution’s growth. He also expressed confidence in securing victory at the APC primary election scheduled for April 5.
Prof. Joseph Ikechebelu, Acting Vice-Chancellor of UNIZIK, congratulated the graduates, reminding them that their impact on society would be measured by their decisions, innovations, and contributions. He urged them to give back to their alma mater, emphasizing that “the best business schools in the world thrive on the strength of their alumni—those who give back, mentor, and open doors for future graduates.”
Prof. Anayo Nkamnebe, Director of the Business School at UNIZIK, revealed that the Class of 2025 comprised 31 graduates, with 22 earning doctorate and master’s degrees in security studies and communication management. Three others received postgraduate diplomas.

Dr. Odera Ozoka, a recipient of a doctorate in business administration, pledged that the alumni, especially the Class of 2025, would play an active role in the development of the institution.
In its recent 19th convocation ceremony, NAU graduated a total of 8,157 students, marking a significant milestone in its academic achievements.
