The Edo State Police Command has arrested a serving police officer and three civilians over shocking allegations of brutality, extortion, and armed robbery that have terrorized residents of Benin City.
The suspects—Inspector Ojo Oloruntobi and his civilian accomplices Charles Onah, Joseph Ohis, and Enoma Agho—were apprehended on August 15, 2025, after a viral video exposed their alleged crimes.
According to police spokesperson CSP Moses Yamu, the breakthrough followed a complaint from a victim who reported being abducted by policemen, stripped of his valuables, and violently harassed. Acting swiftly, Commissioner of Police Monday Agbonika ordered their immediate arrest.
The suspects were intercepted by operatives of the Ugbowo Surveillance Team in a silver Toyota Yaris, along with incriminating items. Commissioner Agbonika condemned the incident as “shameful and criminal,” stressing that the command maintains zero tolerance for corruption and misconduct.
The victim recounted that he was stopped along Sapele Road near Adesuwa Junction, accused of being wealthy because his wife is an American, then handcuffed, brutalized, and robbed of his phone and belongings.
Commissioner Agbonika vowed that the suspects would face the full weight of the law, warning that any officer caught engaging in extortion, brutality, or abuse of power would be dismissed, arrested, and prosecuted.

The police command urged victims and the public to come forward with credible information to strengthen the investigation, while reaffirming its commitment to protecting lives, restoring public trust, and upholding the integrity of the Nigeria Police Force.
The arrested suspects remain in custody as investigations continue.
