….APC Confident PDP Will Withdraw Its Case Next
The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Edo State has expressed confidence that the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) will soon withdraw its petition against Governor Monday Okpebholo, citing a lack of substantial evidence to support its claims.
APC’s optimism follows the recent dismissal of petitions filed by the Action Democratic Party (ADP), Zenith Labour Party (ZLP), and Allied People’s Movement (APM) by the Edo State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Abuja. The tribunal struck out the cases on Friday, February 7, 2025, after the petitioners voluntarily withdrew their complaints against the APC and Governor Okpebholo.
Speaking on behalf of the petitioners, Comrade Wisdom Isaac explained that their decision to withdraw was driven by a commitment to Edo State’s welfare and development. He emphasized the importance of maintaining peace and allowing the governor to focus on governance, while noting that they would have future opportunities to contest leadership in the 2028 gubernatorial election.
Echoing similar sentiments, Barrister Jackson Ehiabhi, counsel for APM, stated that the petitioners prioritized the state’s stability over political ambitions, choosing not to distract the governor from his responsibilities.

With the tribunal’s dismissal of these petitions, four cases have now been resolved, leaving only the PDP’s challenge still pending. However, the APC remains hopeful that PDP will follow suit, arguing that the party’s case lacks a solid foundation, as evidenced by the weak testimonies of its witnesses before the tribunal.
Meanwhile, APC and Governor Okpebholo are preparing to open their defense against the PDP’s petition, seeking to reaffirm their victory in last year’s gubernatorial election.
