Ebonyi State Governor, Francis Nwifuru, has suspended the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Uchenna Igwe, citing alleged gross misconduct and dereliction of duty.
This decision marks the fourth suspension of a commissioner within a week, reflecting a significant shake-up in the state’s leadership.
Governor Nwifuru stated that Igwe failed to execute a critical assignment related to the payment of local government pensions by council chairmen across the state. Consequently, Igwe has been placed on a three-month suspension.
This latest action follows the suspension of three commissioners last week. Chinedu Nkah, Commissioner for Water Resources, was suspended indefinitely, while Francis Ori, Commissioner for Housing, and Moses Ekuma, Commissioner for Health, were each suspended for three months.
In a related development, senior officials in the health sector were also affected. On November 24, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Health, alongside the Executive Secretaries of the State Primary Healthcare Development Agency and the Ebonyi State Health Insurance Agency, received three-month suspensions.
