A High Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) in Kwali, Abuja, will on Friday, May 16, commence hearing in a N50 million debt suit filed against GreenArps Project Limited, a company linked to prominent businessman Kessington Adebutu, popularly known as Baba Ijebu.
The suit, instituted by Raji Rasaq Adeshina on behalf of a technical consortium, seeks an order compelling GreenArps to pay an outstanding balance of N50 million, along with accrued interest since 2023. The consortium had supported GreenArps in securing the concession of the National Stadium, Lagos, in November 2023.
The legal proceedings begin as the stadium concession is expected to be presented to the Federal Executive Council (FEC) for final approval.
The claimant alleges that GreenArps failed to fulfill its financial obligations after winning the bid, despite the consortium’s technical support being instrumental to the company’s success.
At the last sitting on May 9, Justice Abdulraman Usman fixed May 16 for commencement of trial, adopting a fast-track procedure after refusing an earlier request to move the suit to the undefended list. The claimant had made the request, citing GreenArps’ failure to file a defence since the case was filed on January 10, 2025.
Instead of responding to the substantive claims, GreenArps filed a motion on May 5 seeking to stay proceedings, following its appeal against the court’s April 9 ruling.
In a counter affidavit, claimant’s counsel, Austin Otah, accused the defendant of using delay tactics to frustrate the trial. He urged the court to proceed, arguing that the application lacked merit.
“The applicant has failed to file any pleadings yet seeks to truncate or suspend the proceedings not based on the merits of any defence, but by spurious and desperate means,” Otah argued.

The court will decide on the continuation of the trial when it reconvenes on May 16.
