Deadly Explosion Rocks FCT as Gas Tanker Bursts Into Flames, Several Feared Dead

A massive explosion shook the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) on Wednesday after a gas tanker burst into flames at the Karu Bridge in the Nyanya area of Abuja. The inferno engulfed several vehicles, causing widespread panic among residents and commuters.

Emergency responders have confirmed the recovery of at least seven bodies, while rescue operations remain ongoing. The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), firefighters, and other security agencies are on the scene, working to contain the fire and assess the extent of the damage.

Eyewitnesses reported hearing a loud explosion before flames and thick smoke billowed into the sky. Many drivers and passengers were seen fleeing their vehicles as the fire spread rapidly.

The incident has triggered a severe traffic gridlock along the Nyanya-Mararaba axis, leaving numerous commuters stranded. Some have abandoned their vehicles in search of alternative routes.

Authorities have yet to determine the exact cause of the explosion, and the number of injured victims remains unclear. Investigations are ongoing.
