A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has refused to grant bail to the Bauchi State Commissioner for Finance, Yakubu Adamu, and three other defendants over alleged terrorism financing, ordering that they remain in custody pending the conclusion of their trial.
The ruling, delivered by Justice Emeka Nwite, came despite the court’s earlier decision last Friday granting Adamu bail in a separate money-laundering case instituted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). In that earlier case, the court admitted the commissioner to bail in the sum of ₦500 million with two sureties in like amount over allegations involving about ₦4.6 billion.
Justice Nwite held that the bail granted in the money-laundering matter could not extend to the terrorism financing charges, stressing that the two cases are distinct and independent prosecutions.

However, the judge ruled that the gravity of the terrorism financing allegations required a separate consideration, thereby declining the defendants’ bail applications.
As a result, Adamu and the three other accused persons will remain in detention while the court proceeds with hearing the terrorism financing case brought against them by the EFCC.
