Chairman Senate Committee on Appropriations, Sen. Solomon Adeola Olamilekan has assured Nigerians of the President signing the 2024 budget before 1st of January 2024, saying that there is no law or constitutions that says the president can’t sign the budget on Sunday.
Added that the budget can sign anywhere, that as long it is recognized by law of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
The senator representing Ogun West Senatorial District made this statement during a press briefing on Saturday in Abuja at the passing of the 2024 budget. Added that all machinery has been put to work.
Chairman Senate Committee on Appropriations reaffirmed that the budget documents that were passed, that the Senate worked closely with the executive,”It was not done in isolation.”
“Executives were involved with us every day. That is the Minister of Budget and Economic Planning and National Planning.
“He was here with us for clarity to any gray area, sharing opinions, before final decisions were taken. I think for that kind of working relationship that we had before eventually bringing the document to the members of the National Assembly for passage. It showed a lot of work has gone into the same document, a lot of consultation, a lot of back and front argument, before the eventual passage the budget this afternoon,”
“For the President to now sign, I think with all the briefing along the line that we have shared concerning the increment, concerning the expenditure, concerning every item on the budget to maintain January to December calendar, that we have to do extra work and everybody was available.”
“And I want to thank my colleague, both in the House and the Senate, for that joint committee sitting that we had. That really helped a lot because that sitting shows that there is no need for the Senate to have their own differences in another Rep to have the difference.
“From day one, the sitting was held together. And the report is just one amonized report of any of the committee’s any of the standing committees of both the House and the Senate.
“And that assists us in quick collation of the reports and eventual processing or passage or preparation of data passing into law.
“So that is one angle that we work around to ensure the passage of the budget which you witnessed today.
“All hands were on deck and we want to thank everybody, including you the press that have worked closely with us to ensure that at least the budget is passed within a short time.”
