In a chilling incident, Ismail Usman, a local herbalist from Abuja’s Kuchibuyi Village, is now critically injured and fighting for his life—a grim testament to the perilous consequences of blind faith and reckless ambition. His shocking experiment has plunged the community into disbelief and horror.
On November 23, 2024, Usman attempted to prove the efficacy of his self-made “bulletproof” charm by firing a shotgun at his own stomach. The charm’s supposed invincibility failed catastrophically, leaving him writhing in pain with severe, life-threatening injuries.
The incident occurred at Usman’s residence, where Shandam Michael, a shaken eyewitness, immediately contacted the police emergency line. Officers from the Byazhin Division arrived swiftly, finding Usman on the brink of collapse. He was rushed to Kubwa General Hospital before being transferred to Gwagwalada Specialist Hospital for intensive care.
An investigation uncovered an assortment of homemade charms and the shotgun used in the experiment. Usman now faces legal consequences, including charges of unlawful possession of firearms and attempted suicide under Section 231 of the Penal Code Law of Nigeria.
Commissioner of Police for the Federal Capital Territory, CP Olatunji Disu, condemned the act, highlighting the dangers of illegal firearms and irresponsible behavior. “This tragic event serves as a stark warning to our community. We urge residents to prioritize safety and report any suspicious activities,” he stated.
Police Public Relations Officer SP Josephine Adeh echoed his sentiments, urging vigilance. “Community members must remain alert and report any dubious practices that threaten collective security,” she emphasized.
