ENUGU, Nigeria — Former presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi, has officially defected to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), declaring that the move marks the beginning of what he described as a renewed political rescue mission for Nigeria.
Obi announced his defection on Tuesday during a political rally held at the Nike Lake Resort Hotel in Enugu, where he was received by ADC leaders and supporters.
“We are ending this year with the hope that in 2026 we will begin a rescue journey,” the former Anambra State governor said, assuring supporters that the new political alliance will mobilise Nigerians toward credible leadership and good governance.
Obi also vowed that he and his supporters would “resist rigging of elections by every lawful means in 2027,” signalling a determined push to challenge Nigeria’s electoral integrity and governance structure.
