The Nigerian Senate made a significant decision on Wednesday by removing Senator Ali Ndume from his role as Senate Majority Chief Whip. In his place, Senator Mohammed Tahir Monguno, who represents Borno North Senatorial District, was appointed to the position.
Senator Mohammed Tahir Monguno has now assumed the role of Senate Majority Chief Whip and also serves as the Deputy Chairman of the Committee on Appropriation.
The decision to replace Senator Ali Ndume stemmed from a controversial statement he made on Arise News, where he criticized the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Following this, Senate President Godswill Akpabio received communication from the All Progressives Party (APC) indicating their dissatisfaction with Ndume’s actions.
In response to the changes, Akpabio congratulated Senator Mohammed Tahir Monguno on his new position and announced that Senator Adeniyi Adegbonmire (SAN), representing Ondo Central in the National Assembly, would now serve as the Senate Chairman on Judiciary, Human Rights, and Legal Matters.
As part of the reorganization, Senator Ali Ndume has been appointed as the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Tourism. This reshuffling of committees was announced during a plenary session.
