The Zamfara State Police Command confirmed the incident through its Public Relations Officer, Yazid Abubakar, who disclosed that the blast occurred on Saturday afternoon. He however stated that full details were still being gathered.

“I can confirm that there was a blast in that area, but it just happened. I do not have details yet. I will provide updates later,” Abubakar said in a telephone interview.

Eyewitnesses and residents in the affected area alleged that the explosive may have been planted by bandits who have continued to terrorize communities and highways across the state. A viral video from the scene showed panicked travelers fleeing in different directions moments after the explosion.

The incident has heightened fear among road users and further underscored growing insecurity in Zamfara, where banditry, kidnappings, and violent attacks have persisted despite ongoing security operations. Authorities are expected to release more information as investigations continue.
