The Presidency has reversed the appointment of Usman Dakingari Suleiman as Nigeria’s ambassador-designate to Turkey, citing a naming mix-up.
The reversal came hours after an earlier announcement by the Presidential Spokesman, Mr Bayo Onanuga, who on Thursday night disclosed the appointment of four ambassadors, including Dakingari, a former governor of Kebbi State.
In the initial statement, Onanuga had announced: “Usman Isa Dakingari Suleiman, former governor of Kebbi, is the ambassador-designate to Turkey.” He also revealed that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who recently returned from a three-week overseas trip, is scheduled to visit Turkey next week.
However, in a subsequent statement issued later the same day, the Presidency clarified that Dakingari’s appointment had been put on hold due to an error in the naming of the ambassador-designate to Turkey.
“Please note that there was a naming mix-up for the ambassador-designate to Turkey. The posting is undergoing review. Thanks for your understanding,” the statement read.
Onanuga stressed that the development affected only Dakingari’s posting and did not impact the appointments of the other ambassadors-designate earlier announced.

Those unaffected by the review are Ambassador Ayodele Oke (France), Colonel Lateef Are (United States of America), and Ambassador Amin Dalhatu, former envoy to South Korea, who has been named high commissioner-designate to the United Kingdom.
According to the Presidential spokesman, President Tinubu has directed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to formally notify the governments of France, the United States and the United Kingdom of their respective ambassadors-designate, in line with established diplomatic procedures.
