…As Senate Constitution Review Committee Considers 59 Bills, 31 Proposals
Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau Jibrin, has reaffirmed his absolute loyalty to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, declaring his readiness to accept any role assigned to him by the President ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Senator Barau made the statement on Wednesday during a press briefing on the upcoming zonal public hearings by the Senate Committee on Constitution Review.
Reacting to growing speculation and calls for him to be considered as President Tinubu’s running mate in 2027, the Kano-born lawmaker said:
“Whatever Mr. President asks me to do, I will do it 100%. He is my political father, and I am very loyal to him.”
Barau dismissed conversations about the next general election as premature, emphasizing that the current focus should remain on supporting President Tinubu’s reform agenda.
“Honestly, I don’t want to say anything about that now. Mr. President has been working tirelessly to reset the trajectory of this nation for prosperity. Instead of wasting energy on 2027 speculation, Nigerians should channel resources toward supporting him,” he said.
He commended the President’s leadership, describing him as open-minded and compassionate, and recalled Tinubu’s role in resolving political tensions that led to his Senate candidacy and subsequent emergence as Deputy Senate President.
“When we had issues in Kano, he resolved them. He made it possible for me to get the Senate ticket in 2023 and supported me to become Deputy Senate President,” Barau stated.
Expressing his ideological alignment with the President, he added:
“I’m a progressive to the core. We cherish loyalty. I’m 100% loyal to Mr. President.”
On legislative matters, Senator Barau also disclosed that the Senate Committee on Constitution Review is currently considering 59 bills and 31 proposals. He said public hearings will be held in all six geopolitical zones to ensure broad-based participation in the constitutional reform process.
According to him, the hearings will be chaired by principal officers of the Senate from each zone and will provide a platform for Nigerians to submit memoranda and proposals aimed at shaping the future of the country’s Constitution.
