The Amalgamated Union of App-Based Transporters of Nigeria (AUATON) has vowed to continue its fight against alleged anti-labour practices by the inDrive e-hailing platform.
In a statement on Saturday, the union’s Public Relations Officer, Steven Iwindoye, expressed dismay over what he described as inDrive’s disregard for its drivers’ well-being. His remarks followed the company’s response to the union’s earlier protests over security concerns and an allegedly unfair pricing system.
inDrive’s Regional Public Relations Manager, Lineo Thakhisi, defended the company’s operations, stating that the platform follows a transparent model that prioritizes driver autonomy and fair pricing. Unlike traditional ride-hailing services with fixed fares, inDrive’s bidding system allows drivers and passengers to negotiate mutually acceptable rates.
“This ensures that drivers retain full control over their earnings and are never forced to accept fares that do not meet their expectations,” Thakhisi said.

However, Iwindoye insisted that the union would no longer tolerate the neglect of drivers’ welfare. He urged all app-based transporters to unite in the fight for fair treatment.
“We are the backbone of this industry, and our collective strength will not be undermined by selfish interests,” he said.
“You have no concern for the sustainability of our profession—only for a system that benefits you. We refuse to be exploited.”
