Nigeria and Angola have signed a bilateral agreement waiving visa requirements for holders of Diplomatic and Official passports, in a move aimed at easing official engagements and strengthening intergovernmental relations between both countries.
The agreement was signed on Sunday, February 15, 2026, on the sidelines of the 39th Ordinary Session of the African Union in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, signed the agreement on behalf of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, while Angola’s Minister of External Relations, Tete Antonio, signed on behalf of the Republic of Angola.
According to a press statement issued by Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa, spokesperson for Nigeria’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the visa waiver agreement is expected to remove administrative bottlenecks for holders of Diplomatic and Official/Service Passports, thereby facilitating smoother and faster official travel between the two governments.

The development is seen as a significant step toward deepening bilateral ties and enhancing diplomatic cooperation between Abuja and Luanda.
It also aligns with broader continental efforts to promote the free movement of persons, strengthen institutional collaboration, and advance Africa’s integration agenda under the African Union framework.
