The Amalgamated Union of App-Based Transporters of Nigeria (AUATON) says it is taking decisive steps to address operational irregularities and restore integrity within its ranks.
The Chairman of AUATON, Lagos State Council, Mr. Azeez Jaiyesimi, disclosed this in a statement issued on Monday by the union’s Public Relations Officer, Mr. Steven Iwindoye.
Jaiyesimi revealed that two-thirds of AUATON members across the country have called for a special delegate conference to urgently address the challenges undermining the union’s structure and operations.
“This urgent call is born out of the need to correct the irregularities in the union’s activities and to restore order, dignity, accountability, and transparency to our collective movement,” he stated.
The chairman also urged the President of the union, Comrade Adedamola Adeniran, and the Acting Secretary to promptly forward all necessary documents and information to the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC).
“This is a critical step toward ensuring proper recognition, documentation, and a clear pathway for the union’s progress,” he said.
Lamenting the exploitation of drivers by app-based transport companies, Jaiyesimi declared: “Enough is enough! We can no longer allow app companies to exploit our sweat and sacrifice while undermining our intelligence. This is our industry, and there must be dignity in our labour.”

He further emphasized the importance of unity and collective responsibility, invoking the African philosophy of Ubuntu – “I am because we are” – and urging that it be demonstrated through action, unity, and accountability.
According to him, the upcoming special delegate conference will be a crucial turning point, aimed at implementing reforms, strengthening the union’s internal structures, and repositioning AUATON to better serve the interests of app-based transporters nationwide.
