Anxiety has engulfed the Nnewi and Adazi communities in Anambra State following the mysterious disappearance of the Emeritus Archbishop of the Niger Province and Bishop of Nnewi, Most Rev. Prof. Godwin Okpala.
The 75-year-old cleric, a native of Adazi Ani in Anaocha Local Government Area, was last seen on Friday morning while en route to Umuchu in Aguata Local Government Area to attend the burial ceremony of a fellow bishop.
Efforts by the church to establish contact with Archbishop Okpala have so far been unsuccessful. His whereabouts, along with those of his driver and vehicle, remain unknown.
In a statement, the Bishop of Nnewi Diocese, Rt. Rev. Ndubuisi Obi, expressed deep concern over the situation. He called for urgent intercessory prayers for the Archbishop’s safe return, urging the faithful to pray fervently for his safety and that of his driver.
The church has reached out to the relevant authorities, and the police have been notified. However, the spokesperson for the Anambra State Police Command has denied having any official report of the incident.
The community is on edge, anxiously awaiting positive news about the safe return of Archbishop Okpala and his driver, as fears continue to mount over their mysterious disappearance.
