The Anambra State Government has dismissed as false and politically motivated, recent social media allegations linking the Governor’s wife, Dr. Nonye Soludo, to a purported ₦38 million contract scandal at the Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University (COOU).
In a statement signed by the Governor’s Senior Media Aide, Mr. Daniel Ezeigwe, the government described the claims as “spurious, ridiculous and a senseless attempt” to tarnish the image of the First Lady.
The statement clarified that Mrs. Soludo has no involvement in government contracts, stressing that:
There is no official office of the First Lady in Anambra State, nor any Senior Special Assistant attached to her.
Mrs. Chinwe Umerie, mentioned in the reports, is not an aide to Mrs. Soludo and has no professional ties with her.
The alleged ₦38 million project at COOU has no connection to the Governor’s wife.
The awarding of honorary doctorate degrees at the university rests solely with the Senate and Governing Council, not the Vice Chancellor acting alone.
“We understand that this is the season of politics, and there’s no level that some people won’t descend in their desperate chase for nothing,” the government noted.
Also, urged the public to disregard the allegations, describing Mrs. Soludo as “a woman of integrity, decency, and peerlessness.”
The rebuttal follows a wave of unverified social media reports alleging misconduct involving the Governor’s wife and university officials.
