The Anambra State Government has prohibited students from writing assignments directly in textbooks, describing the practice as wasteful and unsustainable.
The directive was announced by the Commissioner for Education, Prof. Ngozi Chuma-Udeh, during a workshop for private school proprietors and teachers held on Friday in Awka.
Chuma-Udeh explained that the decision aims to ensure textbooks remain reusable, particularly for younger siblings and future students. She emphasized the importance of creating inclusive textbooks that reflect diversity, promote equality, and cater to the varied needs of all learners.
“The government will not tolerate non-compliance with this directive,” she warned.
She urged parents, teachers, and school administrators to strictly enforce the policy and report any violations to the Ministry of Education.
According to Chuma-Udeh, the initiative aligns with Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s commitment to reducing the financial burden on families while promoting quality, sustainable education in the state.
