Issele-Uku, Delta State — A dispute over legitimacy and inheritance has engulfed the family of the late businessman and philanthropist, Chief Nuel Ojei, with his daughter, Chi-Chi Ojei, at the center of controversy.
According to sources from Issele-Uku, Afoma, a sister of the deceased, claims that Chi-Chi Ojei was conceived before Chief Ojei’s marriage to Vivian Ojei. The claim further alleges that the late businessman was aware of the circumstances but chose to remain silent to avoid public scrutiny.
Chi-Chi Ojei, who previously served as Executive Director of Finance at Nuel Ojei Holdings, was reportedly dismissed from the role prior to her father’s passing, amid allegations of poor financial management. These claims have not been independently verified.
Tensions reportedly intensified in early February 2026 when Afoma renewed her allegations publicly. Sources say the dispute has expanded into a battle over control and inheritance of the Ojei estate. While Chi-Chi Ojei is said to assert herself as heir, custom and tradition in Issele-Uku reportedly recognize the first son, Chuks Ojei, as the rightful family head, a stance supported by other siblings.

Further reports indicate that Chi-Chi Ojei has allegedly been involved in selling cars and properties in Lagos linked to the late businessman. Family members argue these assets are part of the estate and should not be sold without official probate or letters of administration. Legal experts warn that unauthorized sales could expose both parties to liability.
The inheritance dispute highlights the complex intersection of customary law, statutory law, and family consensus in Delta State, and the case is expected to attract further scrutiny as family members and legal practitioners weigh in.
