2025 Budget: Senator Aliero Calls for Leadership Support to Boost Agriculture, Education, others

Senator Muhammad Adamu Aliero, former Governor of Kebbi State and the current representative of Kebbi Central senatorial district, has described President Tinubu’s proposed ₦47.9 trillion 2025 budget as a “budget of consolidation.”
Speaking with journalists in Abuja on Wednesday, Senator Aliero emphasized the budget’s focus on addressing Nigeria’s agricultural and security needs.
Security
The senator commended the strides made in improving national security, particularly in combating Boko Haram, while acknowledging ongoing challenges with banditry in the northwest and north-central regions.
“I believe we have degraded Boko Haram, even though we still face significant banditry issues.
“The substantial allocation to defense in this budget is a commendable and necessary initiative.”he added.
Senator Aliero further explained that the National Assembly would thoroughly deliberate on the budget and involve relevant ministries during the budget defense process before its eventual passage into law.
Agriculture
Highlighting agriculture’s potential, Senator Aliero stressed the importance of investing in mechanization and agricultural inputs.
“Nigeria is an agricultural nation. We must enhance production to ensure food security and reduce dependency on imports. A significant portion of the budget is dedicated to procuring agricultural machinery and inputs, which is a step in the right direction,” he said.
He praised President Tinubu’s leadership in prioritizing agricultural development, which he believes will empower farmers and stimulate nationwide agricultural growth.
Education
Senator Aliero also underscored the vital role of education in national development.
“No country can achieve meaningful progress without prioritizing education,” he stated. “President Tinubu has demonstrated commitment by allocating substantial resources to the education sector. A well-focused education system is essential for building the human resources needed for development.”
Debt Servicing
Addressing the ₦15.8 trillion allocated for debt servicing, Senator Aliero expressed mixed feelings, acknowledging the high figure but noting it represents a reduction in the proportion of funds dedicated to this purpose compared to previous budgets.

“It’s still a significant amount, but the reduction to approximately 48% of total debt servicing costs is a positive improvement,” he explained.
Budget Implementation Timeline
The senator clarified that while the 2024 budget has been extended to June 2025 to ensure full utilization of allocated funds, efforts will be made to pass the 2025 budget promptly in early 2025.
“Government activities will not be delayed. The 2024 budget will continue to be implemented while the new budget is finalized, ensuring seamless operations,” he assured.
Senator Aliero concluded by urged leadership at all levels to support the 2025 budget, emphasizing its potential to address Nigeria’s pressing agricultural, educational, and security needs.
