The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has announced the official assumption of duty of Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi as the 35th Commissioner of Police, with effect from Tuesday, March 24, 2026.
The development was disclosed in a statement issued by the Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, who confirmed that Sanusi has formally taken over leadership of the command. He succeeds Miller G. Dantawaye, who was recently elevated to the rank of Assistant Inspector-General of Police and redeployed on the directive of the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu.
A seasoned officer with decades of policing experience, Sanusi was born on May 20, 1972, in Lokoja Local Government Area of Kogi State. He joined the Nigeria Police Force as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police in May 2000 and began his career in the Niger State Command after completing his training in 2001. Prior to his appointment, he served as Commander of the Intelligence Response Team (IRT), where he played a significant role in intelligence-driven operations.

Upon assumption of office, Sanusi reaffirmed his commitment to strengthening existing security structures and enhancing community-police relations across the FCT. He emphasized the need for collaboration between residents and security agencies to effectively tackle crime and maintain public safety.
The Command also urged residents of the FCT to continue supporting law enforcement efforts to ensure sustained peace, law, and order in the nation’s capital.
